Jane: I couldn't get Nero 6.6 or Express to install on Vista x64 but Nero 7 Ultra installed. The only thing that I verified was burning an ISO image and it worked.

I downloaded Vista from Microsoft's site. WHen it finished downloading, it was a Winrar file, and i cannot extract the ISO file. When i extract the files i get simply a readme.txt "This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."
do i need a special software to read the ISO file? i would like to burn this onto DVD and install it, but cannot find the ISO file. I am sure i have the full file, as the Winrar file is 3,376,952 KB in size. Any suggestions?

Hello,
That WinRAR file is the ISO. WinRAR is set up to view ISO's, so you can double-click it to open it with WinRAR and view it's contents. As a side effect, it gets the WinRAR icon.
You should be able to right-click the file, click Open With, and then get to your DVD burning software ... or, just open up your DVD burning software and open that file.
Although it appears as though it only contains that text file, the other files are actually there, and will load fine once you burn the DVD.
Good
luck :)

Great. SO what do you suggest I do to burn the DVD? I'm fairly new to this, and worry about making a mistake. Should i just copy the entire winrar file to DVD? If i do that, can I use the DVD to install Vista? -- Cheers

There should be an option in your DVD burning software to "Load ISO" or "Open disk image" or something to that effect. That is what you need to do - the process is pretty much automatic.
Just make sure you set it to burn at the SLOWEST speed possible, 2x if available; this will ensure a good quality burn.

i just did a right click on the winrar file, and clicked "open with" to look at the files inside. all that was there was the readme.txt. there was nothing else. yet, the winrar file is 3.2 g in size -- Cheers

Usually you can open and extract ISO files with WinRAR, but not this one. Just burn the iso using Nero Burning Rom (using "Burn image" somewhere in the menus)

even though i cannot see the iso file? the winrar file is 3.2 g in size. but when i look for the files inside, there is only a readme.txt. so if i burn a dvd selecting the winrar file, it should end up being the iso of windows vista? -- Cheers

Well, what is the file name and extension? .rar or .iso?

Another way for Nero;
right click the iso, open with, choose nero burning rom, burn image done.....................
